Chocolate Chip Cookies to Die For

!±8± Chocolate Chip Cookies to Die For

What diet? Who ever heard of abstaining from chocolate chip cookies? I can detect the aroma around almost every corner I turn. The whole world seems to conspire against me. Every body's baking them. Every skinny soul I meet is consuming them by the dozen. I figure just one, or even two, or (heaven forbid) even three, won't hurt my calorie counting soul.

I slowly sink my salivating teeth into one chocolate chip cookie. So light, so crisp and chewy, I feel my taste buds go totally berserk. I shut my eyes, savor the sweetness, and let the little chocolate chips roll around inside my mouth. Tantalizing, tickling my taste buds, they take over my chocolate craving soul, mind and body.

How can anyone resist these little critters? What is life worth if one can't indulge a little every now and then? I succumb graciously. If I must lose the battle of the bulge, I must do so with dignity. And relish every moment of it - heart and soul.

Chocolate chip cookies - the words roll magically off my tongue. Who ever invented them deserves a Nobel peace prize. If there were more of them around the world, there would be fewer wars. They would make the greatest peace offerings. You could win over entire battalions of your enemies. They could become your slaves for life. Hostilities would end. Negotiations would flourish. Enemies would become your friends for life.

As is obvious, I am an acknowledged slave of the chocolate chip cookie. I can't bake them myself; I would probably consume the cookie dough before it even hits the oven. And as for those little pieces of chocolate chips, I doubt if they would reach the baking tray. So wisdom prevails and I let my mother, aunt, cousin, friend, anyone, bake them while I become the self appointed official taster. I consider myself quite the chocolate chip gourmet. I have dozens of chocolate chip cookie recipes at my disposal.

I can guide the baker on the best recipes, ingredients, baking tips and temperature setting, although this doesn't always go down well with the baker. However, I have collected these recipes with great enthusiasm, dedication and commitment. I wish some one would appreciate my efforts. I'm even willing to share some of these recipes with other enthusiasts.

Here goes one chocolate chip recipe that I really like. You will need:

o Unsalted Butter - 225 g
o Granulated sugar - 150 g
o Brown sugar - 160 g
o Eggs - 2
o Vanilla extract - 1 ½ teaspoons
o Flour - 295 g
o Baking soda - 1 teaspoon
o Salt - ½ teaspoon
o Semisweet chocolate chips - 270 g

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Cream the butter. Add white and brown sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Incorporate vanilla smoothly.

Combine baking soda, flour and salt in another bowl. Combine egg mixture with dry ingredients until smooth. Add chocolate chips half way through. Cover and refrigerate till firm. Meanwhile, line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Drop around two tablespoons of dough at a time on to baking sheet. Bake for around 12 - 14 minute until golden brown around edges.

Cool them. Consume them. Let the experience totally overwhelm you. You will never be the same again.

Effortless Pool Party For Kids and Grown-ups Too!

!±8± Effortless Pool Party For Kids and Grown-ups Too!

There is something about planning a party at the pool that alternately evokes images of lazy days and frenzied terror. Going as a guest to a pool party sounds positively lovely. All you have to do is soak up the sun and strategically position the towel so you look your best without appearing to actually orchestrate it.

However, if you are the host or hostess it is another matter entirely. You are now the party planner and the success or failure of the party will fall on you. Is planning a simple pool party difficult? What if you get there and you have forgotten the crucial ingredients? What should you serve? Will the food hold up on a hot day? What if... what if... what if...You might as well start to worry about lightening striking on a clear and beautiful day in southern California. It's not going to happen and neither is the other stuff. And if it does you'll just deal with it.

But we have to admit, a good party plan makes everybody feel better and we have a fool proof plan for you.

1. Here is your menu:

o Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (is there a kid around who doesn't love these?)
o Deli roll ups (recipe to follow) for the adults or adventurous kids
o Carrot sticks, celery
o Apples, grapes, cut up cantaloupe or whatever your favorite fruit is
o Chips, Trader Joe's Low Fat Pretzel Sticks and store bought dips
o Toll house chocolate chip cookies or Rice Krispy treats
o Drinks can be as simple as bottles of water
o It's easier to store everything in a nice cooler.
o Paper plates & napkins
o Trash bag

2. Putting you party in the cooler keeps everything cold and you don't have to worry about the food not holding up well. It has the added benefit of keeping all your food together in one place. If you don't have a cooler just put a few bags of ice in with the dips.

3. Bring pool toys which can be purchased at your local grocery store, drug store or any discount store like Tuesday Morning, Big Lots or the local 99¢ store . There are great bargains at those store where you don't have to spend a lot of money, but at the same time you can get a variety of pool toys. Blow up rafts, inner tubes, diving toys and squirt guns are great for the pool party. Don't forget towels, sunscreen and extra shirts

4. That's it. Get in the water, cool off and HAVE FUN!

Betty's Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make the Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Cookies, in response to a viewer request for chocolate chip cookies. You can find this very recipe on the Nestle website. This video will be followed up by a video using a large chocolate chip cookie as the base of a delicious sundae. NOTE: These recipes are not low in sugar or low in fat or low in calories. They are just requested treats that you may want to eat in small portions (or share). Ingredients: 2 ¼ cups self-rising flour (The recipe calls for all-purpose flour, plus 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt. I used self-rising flour and omitted the baking soda and salt.) 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened (I used 1 stick butter and 1 stick margarine.) ¾ cup granulated sugar ¾ cup packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 large eggs 2 cups (12 oz. package) Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels (I used a generic brand.) 1 cup chopped nuts (I used chopped pecans.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in large mixing bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets. (I formed my cookies into circles, for uniform sizing, and placed them on a baking pan that had been sprayed with cooking oil spray.) Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 ...

Snack Time at Walt Disney World

!±8± Snack Time at Walt Disney World

Snacks at Walt Disney World are a nice taste treat for some and an obsession for others. Here are some of my favorites:

Magic Kingdom

Aloha Isle (Adventureland)

Dole Whip is the claim to fame at Aloha Isle, and I'll guarantee you'll love this soft-serve pineapple frozen treat. You can even order it in a Coke or root beer float. I do warn you - it's addictive!

Main Street Bake Shop (Main Street)

It's difficult to ignore this sweet shop on Main Street loaded with all kinds of goodies the likes of Snickers cheesecake, giant bear claws, huge hot cinnamon rolls oozing with frosting, giant-size Rice Krispie treats, lovely fruit tarts, and much, much more. Stop in just to stare.

Sleepy Hollow (Liberty Square)

The long lines attest to the goodness of the funnel cakes here. There's also caramel corn, ice cream cookie sandwiches, and luscious root beer floats.

Sunshine Tree Terrace (Adventureland)

Running a close second to Dole Whip is a Citrus Swirl, soft serve vanilla ice cream twisted with frozen orange juice. Although there's much debate about which is best, try both to get in on the action.

Epcot

Boulangerie Patisserie (France)

Don't worry about missing this place - just look for the long line snaking outside into the street. Crowds flock here for the huge assortment of French pastries such as chocolate éclairs, peach tarts, coconut pyramids (my favorite), napoleons, chocolate mousse, chocolate croissants - the list goes on. Find a table on the cobblestone sidestreet and watch the "World" go by.

Crepes des Chefs de France (France)

This kiosk in France makes delicious, hot crepes right in front of your eyes with your choice of filling: chocolate, sugar, or strawberry. Order a cappuccino to sip along with it.

Kringla Bakeri og Café (Norway)

For what it's worth, my favorite snack is to be found here. I can never resist picking up one of the soft, chewy, sweet pretzels topped with icing and sliced almonds. Combine one with a Viking Coffee spiked with Baileys Irish Cream.

Sommerfest (Germany)

Order up a nice bratwurst roll topped with sauerkraut accompanied by German beer. Or go for a dessert of yummy apple strudel topped with lovely vanilla sauce.

Sunshine Seasons Terrace (The Land - Future World)
One popular snack are the Nestle Toll House Cookies baked fresh here throughout the day.

Disney Hollywood Studios

Min and Bill's Dockside Diner

The pretzels are quite good with your choice of cheese or apple cinnamon stuffing. And their yummy, thick shakes are always a winner.

Animal Kingdom

Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery (Africa)

The giant cinnamon rolls dripping with icing are big favorites.

Pizzafari (Discovery Island)

For a quick snack pick up a hot basket of pizza dough breadsticks topped with cheese served up with a side of marinara.

Disney Resorts
Beaches and Cream (Disney's Beach Club Resort)

Lots of choices here at this 50s-style soda shop. My all-time favorite is the old-fashioned malts with the extras served on the side in the stainless steel mixing cup. If you want to go all out order the Kitchen Sink with piles of ice cream (literally served in a miniature kitchen sink) smothered in every topping available.

Captain Cook's (Disney's Polynesian Resort)

Don't forget the famous Dole Whip found at the Magic Kingdom is also served here.

The Mara (Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge)

Two popular items from the resort's Boma restaurant can be found at this counter-service spot - Zebra domes, a delicious amarula (a South African cream liqueur) mousse with chocolate ganache stripes, and paw print brownies, a chocolate brownie with a cocoa lion cub paw print in the icing.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory (Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort)
I'm obsessed with the beignets here - the best I've had outside of New Orleans.

Spoodles Pizza Window (Disney's Boardwalk)

The tasty pizza served at Spoodles Restaurant can be had at this walk-up window just outside. Pick up a slice and catch the Boardwalk's fun atmosphere while you chow down.

Downtown Disney

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop (Marketplace)
Try Earthquake, an extravaganza of eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings, bananas, whipped cream, almonds, and cherries. The warm brownie sundae runs a close second.

Goofy's Pantry (Marketplace)

A great assortment of homemade cookies and other sweets. On cold nights the cookies taste terrific with a cup of hot chocolate.

Wetzel's Pretzels (West Side)

It's tough to resist a trip to Wetzel's Pretzels. Favorite's include the jalapeno cheese melt and the pepperoni twist pretzels. I even like the non-fat original without salt. Non-pretzel lovers can opt for a scoop of Haagen Daz ice cream.

Chocolate Chip Cookies - How We Love America's Favorite Cookie!

!±8± Chocolate Chip Cookies - How We Love America's Favorite Cookie!

Don't you love it when your kids are getting ready for bed and you hear, "By the way Mom - our class party is tomorrow, and I signed up for three dozen chocolate chip cookies!"

Cookies are America's most popular dessert, and for all those late night, emergency cookie baking sessions, or almost any cookie occasion, about half the cookies baked are chocolate chip.

Did you ever wonder what chocolate chip cookies and President John F. Kennedy have in common? Perhaps not, but here are some historical chocolate chip cookie tidbits.

There are an estimated 2,000 varieties of this popular cookie, from chocolate chip banana to white chocolate chip raspberry, but the most popular is the Toll House cookie recipe seen on the back of every Nestlé chocolate chip package.

In 1930, Ruth Wakefield and her husband, Kenneth, established the Toll House Inn, near Boston, Massachusetts. Their tourist lodge was housed in a building (circa 1709) where, at one time, travelers paid their tolls, changed horses and enjoyed home-cooked meals.

The Toll House Inn was well-known for Ruth's cooking, especially her desserts. She often sent travelers on their way with a plate of her delicious cookies. One otherwise uneventful day in 1937, Ruth added small chunks of a Nestlé's Semisweet Yellow Label Chocolate bar to her butter cookie dough.

Results? Instant success!

The story goes that Ruth received a lifetime supply of chocolate in exchange for her recipe, which Nestle' printed on the back of their semisweet chocolate bar packages. The cookie recipe was so popular that Nestlé began marketing chocolate chips to be used especially for cookies.

Over the years, the popular Toll House Inn included many well-known guests, including - guess who? - President John F. Kennedy.

Almost a century after Ruth dropped that first piece of chocolate into her cookies, every bag of Nestle chocolate chips in North America continues to have Wakefield's original, Toll House recipe printed on the back.

Just like Ruth's recipe, all basic chocolate chip recipes call for flour, sugar, butter or margarine, baking powder and/or baking soda, eggs, vanilla, and chocolate chips. The taste and texture varies with recipe. Some chocolate chip cookies bake puffy and others flat. The easiest to decorate are flat.

Decorate chocolate chip cookies? Yes, these are especially unique for Jenny and Jeff's school parties - that is, if you aren't too tired after your all night baking session! Chocolate chip cookies are tasty enough without icing, but a little decoration will make you the most popular mom in the class!

Decorated Chocolate Chip Pan Cookie

Instead of the more time-consuming individual cookies, the chocolate chip pan cookie can be a life-saver when you've awakened at midnight, realizing you forgot to bake those cookies for tomorrow's first grade celebration of "National Play Doh Day."

After you bake the cookie, pipe on a balloon (royal icing border filled in with gel icings) and message like "Happy Imagining!"

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bouquets

While chocolate chip cookies don't lend themselves to the fancier, polished cookie bouquets, they can be very cute and cheerful - exactly the thing for 85-year-old Aunt Myrna, who married her yoga instructor, or Cousin Jim who just graduated from bungee-jumping class - with flying colors!

Here's one idea:

Cookies and Milk Bouquet

1 batch of Toll House chocolate chip cookie dough

Lollipop sticks (rolled paper, not plastic) of varying heights

Royal icing

Preheat oven to 375° F. Roll cookie dough into 2-inch balls. Arrange four balls on an ungreased cookie sheet. Insert a lollipop stick into each ball. Press dough down slightly.

Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are crisp. Cool on baking sheet for 1 minute; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Once cooled (about 20 minutes), decorate your cookies with a decorating bag and royal icing. Use icing sparingly so as not to detract from the wholesome cookie taste. For the "cookies and milk" theme, you might want to add white icing milk moustaches.

After the icing hardens, wrap each cookie in cellophane and tie with a ribbon. Arrange in a mug (for the milk!) that matches your theme.

If you're interested in creating the beautiful cookie bouquets made from sugar cookies you see selling for to , you can learn how from classes, books and videos, such as the "Cookie Decorating Made Easy" Video Books that this reader used:

"Hi Michael! I bought your cookie video books on Friday and made cookies with my kids on Saturday. It was the funnest time and the cookies turned out beautifully."

Chris B.

Las Vegas, NV

One last tip. If you want to be the mom with the most original cookies, bake your chocolate chip cookies in various shapes. Just fit a large decorating tip to a pastry bag, fill with your dough, and pipe out drop flowers or other shapes onto your cookie sheet.
